Crews will begin shifting Highway 36 traffic onto the newly completed bypass just south of the current alignment of the highway beginning Friday evening, June 3. The ramp from Dale Street to westbound Hwy 36 also will close that night. Both directions of Highway 36 will be traveling on the new bypass lanes by early Saturday, June 4. The highway will remain two lanes in each direction with a slight shift to the south around the south side of the Lexington Avenue bridge.
Once Highway 36 traffic is shifted onto the new bypass, demolition of the old Highway 36 bridge will begin. Crews will work from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, June 4 and again Monday and Tuesday, June 6 and 7, as needed. Area residents may encounter noise and some vibration during the bridge removal.
While Lexington Avenue and the ramps to and from Hwy 36 are closed, traffic will follow a signed detour:
· Hwy 36 Detour: Exit at Snelling Ave. and use County Road B or County Road C to reach Lexington Ave.
· Lexington Avenue Detour: Use County Road B or County Road C to Snelling Avenue to reach Highway 36.
The new Lexington Avenue bridge and raps are expected to be complete and open to traffic by late September.
Please watch for construction vehicles moving through the area and drive carefully through the work zone.
