Hike by candlelight on Gateway State Trail Feb. 13

Minnesota state parks and trails will host a candlelight hike on the Gateway State Trail in Maplewood on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Participants will be able to hike along a one-mile segment of the trail lit with candle luminaries, warm up around campfires along the way and enjoy hot cider and other refreshments.

"There's just nothing quite like being out for an evening walk with your family or friends on a candle-lit trail, under twinkling stars and a moon," said Erika Rivers, director of Minnesota state parks and trails. "As anyone who's ever been to a candlelight event at a Minnesota state park or trail knows, it's an unforgettable experience." The event is free.  Recommended parking is at the Maplewood Community Center/Ramsey County District Court off of White Bear Avenue in Maplewood. Note that winter events may sometimes be changed or canceled due to weather.

The Gateway State Trail stretches 17.9 miles from Cayuga Street in St. Paul to Pine Point in Stillwater. For more information call 651-231-6968, or visit
