Jordan entrepreneur recognized

Ken Krause, founder of KLEAN Companies, received the 2015 Bob Klas Sr. Entrepreneur Award at the Dakota-Scott Workforce Investment Board's annual legislative and awards luncheon Dec. 11.
The award was first presented in 2008 to Bob Klas, Sr., the founder and chairman of The Tapemark Company, based in West St. Paul. It recognizes a local entrepreneur whose success is shown through business growth, their leadership in business or civic communities, and the mentorship they provide to other entrepreneurs.
KLEAN Companies has six core services:  lawn care, landscaping, window cleaning, tile and stone, painting, and flooring. The business started in Krause's kitchen back in 2009 during a conversation with a friend. Since that inaugural year, with $22,000 in sales, the business has grown to eight employees and more than $500,000 in sales in 2015.
One of the components in the award nomination and selection is the individual's leadership in the community.  WIB Member Vance Boelter, who nominated Krause, noted, "Ken spends a lot of his time helping the community through his church.  Also, his family often has people staying with them at their house who have come into hard times, and he lets them stay with them until they can get back on their feet again.  He also hires people who are in need of work, just to give them some experience.  Ken also is willing to share with other people how they can get something up and going independently. Ken has also allowed other people to start businesses under his business model which is very generous of him."
