Dakota County Land Protection Program Accepting 2016 Applications

Dakota County Commissioners have provided landowners with an opportunity to protect land and water by authorizing a 2016 Natural Area Protection application round. Those interested in applying for this voluntary program need to complete a preliminary application and submit it to the County by Nov. 16.
Eligible property owners will be asked to complete a final application after meeting with program staff. Unlike previous application rounds for County land protection, farmland protection applications are not being accepted for this 2016 application round.
Funding continues to be made available to preserve and protect open space in Dakota County. The County works with willing landowners to permanently protect private land by acquiring conservation easements or working with other public partners to purchase the land. Through collaboration, grants and landowner donation, the County has leveraged more than $53.6 million to protect over 10,000 acres of land valued at over $73.0 million.
General information and pre-applications for natural area protection are available on the Dakota County website at, search Land Conservation. For more information, please contact Lisa West at 952-891-7018.
