Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik to Seek Re-Election

Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik to Seek Re-Election

Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik announced today that he will seek re-election to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners this fall.

Slavik was first elected to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners in 2012. He previously served six years on the Hastings City Council as an at large member. In addition to serving on the County Board, Slavik represents Dakota County on a number of other Boards including the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District Board, the Cannon River Watershed Partnership, the Dakota County Communications Center (DCC) Board of Directors and the Red Rock Corridor Commission. He serves as Treasurer of the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging and is Chair of the Vermillion River Watershed.

"I am running for re-election because I want to continue to work hard for the residents of District 1 in Dakota County.  The county continues to face a new generation of challenges and I represent a unique mix of private and public sector skills that can meet those challenges" said Slavik.

During the 2012 campaign, Slavik advocated for high quality investments within the county, while being mindful of taxpayer dollars. "I am proud that in 2014, the Dakota County Board doubled the investment in transportation and roads, while reducing the property tax levy for its residents" said Slavik.

Slavik is also proud of Dakota County's accomplishments in streamlining county government through the use of technology and innovative programs.  "Dakota County is held in high regard by other counties around the state because we have been able to implement some truly innovative initiatives.    I want to continue this kind of bold leadership and vision on the County Board."

With a proven record of bringing different views together to get things done, Slavik's commitment to local government stems from the opportunity to make decisions that directly improve the quality of life in our communities.  "In my first term, I have spent a lot of time traveling around the district, listening to residents and visiting with township and city officials." Being grounded in the district in this way gives Slavik a unique perspective that he looks forward to sharing in this campaign.  "I am looking forward to a vigorous campaign and the opportunity to meet and listen to even more residents across the district in the coming year."

Slavik is a graduate of Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, with a Bachelor's degree in political science.  He works as a Realtor at Keystone Real Estate in Hastings.  He is also part owner and President of Hometown Laundry LLC, a Laundromat and real estate holdings company. Currently he serves on the Hastings Area YMCA Board of Directors and is President of the Hastings High School Alumni Association.
