Where art meets an audience. Deadline extended for art submissions for Dakota County exhibit Dakota County News Release

Deadline extended for art submissions for Dakota County exhibit

Artists looking to display their art in public buildings in Dakota County now have more time to submit their work. April 11 is the new submission deadline for an exhibit planned for April by the Dakota County Public Art Citizen Advisory Committee. Submissions may be on any one of three themes: Portraits of Dakota County, Reflections of Dakota County, and Secret Places of Dakota County. The committee encourages a variety of interpretations of the theme. Artists must live in Dakota County and are allowed to submit one piece for consideration.

The art must be prepared for hanging on a wall and meet the criteria outlined by the committee. The criteria are at www.dakotacounty.us and can be found by searching public art. For more information, artists can also contact Jean Erickson, deputy director of Dakota County's Public Services and Revenue Division, 651-438-4286 or jean.erickson@co.dakota.mn.us. Art can include, but is not limited to, painting, drawing or graphic art.

The committee will review the submissions and make a recommendation to the board. The Dakota County Board of Commissioners will make the final decision on which works of art will be exhibited. The committee includes seven members who have backgrounds in art and have been selected by the board.

The selected art will be displayed in public spaces in Dakota County service centers including the Western Service Center in Apple Valley, the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul, and the Administration Center in Hastings. The exhibit will last for six months.
