Dakota County to host two open houses

Help develop two Dakota County strategic plans at open houses scheduled for Monday, March 7 from 6–8:30 p.m. at Dakota Lodge, Thompson County Park, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul and Tuesday, March 8 from 6–8:30 p.m. at the Dakota County Western Service Center, 14955 Galaxie Avenue, Apple Valley.

Dakota County is currently preparing a Natural Resources System Plan to develop an overall approach for managing natural resources and restoring healthy landscapes and waterways in parks, greenways and conservation easements. They are also preparing a Park Visitor Services Plan to improve services that enrich the parks experience, including events, outdoor education, food, volunteerism, rentals, marketing and customer service.

Both projects are in the research phase — evaluating the current state, potential opportunities and public interests in a better park system.

Project teams will host evening discussion sessions to share information from both projects and learn more about people's perceptions, opinions and ideas related to natural resources and park services.

Each open house will have the same format with a formal presentation slated for 6:30–7:45 p.m. Displays and other project information will be available to view and weigh in on from 6–6:30 p.m. and 7:45–8:30 p.m.
