Dakota County Library hosting annual poetry contest in April

Spring means poetry at Dakota County Library, and poets of all ages are encouraged to submit original poems during the month of April. Haiku, free verse, odes and sonnets are all celebrated in the annual poetry contest.

Poems will be judged in the following age groups: adults age 19 and older, teens ages 15–18, teens ages 12–14, children ages 9–11 and children ages 6–8. Participants may submit one poem/rap of no more than two pages. No offensive or derogatory language is accepted. Awards and prizes will be given to the top three entries in each of the five age groups, and winning poems will be published on the Library website.

Entries can be submitted online or at any Dakota County Library location from April 1–30. For contest guidelines and submission information, call 651-450-2918 or visit www.dakotacounty.us/library and search poetry.
