Pleasant Hill Library Events/Hastings Reads Events

Pleasant Hill Library Events
Learn to Write Cover Letters and Thank You Notes at the Library
Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, January 30 at 2 p.m. for a class that will teach participants how to effectively write cover letters and thank you notes.  Participants will learn what you really need to include to get the employer's attention, the difference between a mailed and an emailed letter or note, when and how to follow-up, and proper email etiquette to effectively communicate with employers.  This class is taught by Dakota County Workforce Center staff.  The program is free, but registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website atwww.dakotacounty.us/library.   
 
Children Invited to the Library to Watch Movies
     Children age 2 to 6 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy fun children's books in movie format.  Movies include:  Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door, I Love You the Purplest, Mr. Wuffles, and Hondo and Fabian.
The event is free and no registration is required.  

Baby Story Time at the Library
Children age birth to 2 years old, along with their caregivers,  are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, February 2 and again on February 9, both at 10:45 a.m. for a baby story time.  Children will sing songs, hear stories, and enjoy playtime activities.  The event is free and no registration is required. 

Story Time for all Ages at the Library
Children age 0-6 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, February 4, at 10:30 a.m. for a fun-filled story time.  This program will feature stories and activities ideal for mixed-ages audiences such as child care groups and families.  Story time is free; no registration is required.

Learn Microsoft Excel at the Library
Adults are invited to learn the basics of Microsoft Excel on Wednesday, February 4th, 6-8pm. This class covers the basics of using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software through the example of a family budget. Class attendees should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word or equivalent. The class is free.  Registration is required and begins Wednesday, January 21st. Teens Invited to Get Involved at the Library
Area teens are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, February 9, at 3:30 p.m. to become a part of the Library's Teen Advisory Group (TAG).  TAG recommends books and music, helps plan library programs, and participates in community events and service projects.  Interested teens should be between the ages of 12 and 18.

Hastings Reads Events
 
Enjoy Hastings Reads Family Movie
Bring the family to enjoy a Disney movie musical based on the New York City newsboy strike of 1899.  This free event is scheduled for Thursday, February 5 at 6:30 p.m.  at the Hastings Middle School. The movie is rated PG.   Students may check with their teachers to see if they are offering extra credit. 

Hastings Read Kick-Off with Renee Wendinger
Learn about the historic orphan trains from Renee Wendinger on Saturday, February 7 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Library.   Renee is the author of several nonfiction books about the orphan trains, the president of the Orphan Train Riders of New York, and the daughter of an orphan-train rider. In addition to learning about the largest mass migration of children in America, you can pick up materials on our upcoming events and check out or purchase the Hastings Reads book selections.  Students may check with their teachers to see if they are offering extra credit. 

Enjoy Popcorn and an Afternoon Movie
Enjoy a Disney movie musical based on the New York City newsboy strike of 1899.  This free event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11 at 1 p.m.  at the Tilden Senior Center.  The movie is rated PG.
 
R is for Read Story Time at the Library
ECFE and The Pleasant Hill Library invite children age 3 to 5 years old, along with their parents and caregivers, to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, February 13 at 11 a.m. for free story time.  Our adventure will include stories, rhymes, art, songs and games.  Register through the library website or by calling 651-438-0200.  Registration begins January 30.
