Programs and Events from the Pleasant Hill Library

Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day at the Library
Families and Individuals are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 11 to enjoy a fun-filled Star Wars Reads Day. People are invited to come in costume and enjoy storytelling, games, and crafts. People may also meet costumed volunteers from the 501st Legion. There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required.

Author Damian Fowler Speaks at the Library
Area residents are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m. to hear a presentation by Damian Fowler, author of Falling Through the Clouds.  This is the story of the deadly 2003 plane crash in the Minnesota north woods and the legal and insurance battles that Toby Pearson and his family endured.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 

Baby Story Time at the Library
Babies aged birth to two years old, along with their caregivers, are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, October 13 at 10:45 a.m.  Babies will enjoy stories, songs, bounces and playtime, making this story time perfect. There is no charge for story time, and no registration is needed. ###
 
Teens Invited to get Involved at the Library
Area teens are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. to become a part of a teen library advisory panel.  The Teen Advisory Group, TAG, is charged with recommending books and music, help plan library programs and participate in community events and service projects.  A representative from Hastings Heart Start will also be at this meeting, teaching teens how to perform CPR and how to use the defibrillator.  Interested teens should be between the ages of 12 and 18. 
 
Story Time for All Ages at the Library
Children age birth to six years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30 a.m. for a fun-filled morning of stories and craft activities. This event is ideal for mixed-ages audiences such as child care groups and families. There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required.
 
Learn Macramé Jewelry Making at the Library
Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, October 13th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to learn the art of macramé jewelry making. Students will discover the basic knots you can use to make jewelry from decorative cords and fibers. Everyone will leave with something to wear that's bold and modern or retro-cool. This class is presented by The Textile Center. There is no charge for the event, but registration is required. Create a Fun Scarecrow Shaker at the Library
Children age 6 to 15 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, October 15th from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM to create a fun scarecrow shaker to shake off the ghouls and goblins of the Halloween season. Children may add it to their Halloween decorations or carry it with them on Halloween night. This event is presented by ArtStart. There is no charge for the event, but registration is required. Story Time with Stacy at the Library
     Children age 2 to 10 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. to meet author Stacy Waibel. Stacy is the author of the picture books about Rudy, the cute poodle.  Stacy will read from a selection of her books.  There is no charge for the program, and no registration is required. 

Create Marshmallow and Spaghetti Sculptures at the Library
     Children age 4 to 15 are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, October 17 at 11 a.m. for a marshmallow and spaghetti sculpture creating program.  Children will build cool structures using toothpicks, noodles and mini marshmallows.  There is no charge for the program, and no registration is required. 

Learn E-book Basics at the Library
     Love reading books on your smart phone, tablet or e-reader, but not so crazy about paying for the convenience? Come to the E-book Basics class at the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, October 23rd  and bring your device or try one of ours. You'll learn how to check out and download free e-books from the Dakota County Library. Bring your iPad or Android device at 10:15am, your Kindle e-reader at 11am or your Nook e-reader at 11:45am and your Dakota County library card. The class is free, but space is limited, so call to register at 651-438-0200 or register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration opens October 9th
 
Learn Interviewing Skills at the Library
Area residents are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, October 24 at 2 p.m. for a class that will teach interviewing skills.  People will learn  how to be more confident along with strategies to make one stand out from the crowd.  Topics covered include types of interviews, common interview questions and major blunders to avoid.  This class is taught by the Dakota County WorkForce Center staff.  The class is free, but space is limited so call 651-438-0200 or register online atwww.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration opens October 10.
 
Learn About Your Credit Score at the Library
Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, October 20 at 1 p.m. for a presentation outlining ways to improve your credit, called Credit 411.  Participants will learn how to separate credit report and credit score fact from fiction.  They will also hear straight forward advice on ways to boost a credit score and improve credit health.  Free credit reports will be available for those who are interested.  This program is presented by the Neighborhood Development Alliance.  The program is free, but space is limited so call 651-438-0200 or register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration opens October 6th
