Events at the Pleasant Hill Library

Children Invited to Register for Craft Fair at the Library

          Kids age 4 to 16 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library to register to be a part of this summer's Pleasant Hill Library Craft Fair.  The craft fair will be held Tuesday, July 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  All crafts must be hand made and p riced at $2 or less per item.  For more information about the craft fair, call the library at 651-438-0200.

  

Children Make Their Own Marble Machine at the Library

     Kids age 6 to 12 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. to take part in a program whereby they will make their own marble machine.  The Rube Goldberg Marble Machine  uses a variety of tubes, paper, tape, glue, wire and other unusual scraps.  Children then add the marbles and watch them roll.  This is a Minnesota Legacy Program, presented by ArtStart.  There is no charge for the event, but registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website at www.dakotacounty.us/library


Hear Stories and Songs for the River Town at the Library

     Area families are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, July 17 at 6 p.m. to hear songs and stories about the earth from Douglas Wood, author of Old Turtle and When a Dad says I Love You.  Families will learn Native American legends and find out how we fit into the natural world around us.  This event is co-sponsored with the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required.  This is a Rivertown Days event.


Meet the Instruments at the Library

     Children age 2 to 12 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. for a program to get up close and personal with a number of instruments.  Whether playing in a school band or a rock band, this is a good way to test out a number of different instruments.  Children will be able to play the instruments at the program.  This event is presented in partnership with Groth Music.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 


Learn Woodworking Tips at the Library

     Adults Interested in woodworking are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, July 21 at 6 p.m. for a presentation by Spike Carlsen, author of Backyard Homestead Book of Building Projects.  Carlsen will inspire the group to delve into a new project and offer useful woodworking tips. During the presentation, Carlsen will build a Leopold Bench—a very simply, but clever project from his book.  Many people build this bench with the help of their kids.  At the end of the evening, there will be a drawing for the bench.  Everyone who attends the program has a chance to win and bring it home.   This event is sponsored by the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 

              

Learn about the Art of Henna at the Library

    Area teens, age 12 to 18, who are interested in learning more about the ancient art of Henna tattoo, are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Tuesday, July 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.  Henna artist Victoria Welch will explain  the art and beautiful design of henna and demonstrate temporary henna tattoos on class participants.  There is no charge for the event, however, registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website at www.dakotacounty.us/library


Learn about Folk Music at the Library

     Area families are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. for a fun-filled musical experience with Ten Penny Tunes.  The group will demonstrate some of the instruments used in folk music around the world, including;  the penny whistle, accordion, saxophone and clarinet.  The program will also feature traditional songs and music.   There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 


Paperbacks and Popcorn at the Library

     Teens age 11 to 14 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library  on Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m. to participate in an informal  book discussion group.  Teens will have the chance to talk to other teens about the books they are reading  and learn about the great books others are reading.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 

 

Adults Learn Japanese Paper Art at the Library

     Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, July 28 at 6 p.m. for a unique class outlining Japanese paper art making techniques.  The class will learn three simple Japanese paper art techniques to create greeting cards and bookmarks.  This class is presented by the Minnesota center for Book Arts.  All materials will be provided at the library.  There is no charge for the event, however, registration is required.    To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website at www.dakotacounty.us/library
