Summer Reading Program starts soon!

Root Beer Float Party Kicks off Summer Reading at the Library

Kids of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Tuesday, June 10 for the annual Summer Reading Root Beer Float Kick-off party. There are two parties scheduled for the day; the first party starts at 10:30 a.m. and the second party starts at 6:30 p.m. Children and their families are invited to the library to celebrate the start of summer reading with ice cream and games. Bring your reading list and find great books to read this summer. Children may also register for the summer reading program. Activities for the reading program include reading outside, reading a poem, attending a library event, reading about adventures and faraway places, and more. Library Looking for Summer Teen volunteers
Pleasant Hill Library is looking for teen volunteers for the summer. Applicants must be at least 12 years old by June 1st of 2014 and no older than 18. Volunteers are needed throughout the summer to help at the summer reading registration table and for various programs. You must be able to work at least 12 hours total over the summer and be able to attend the training on June 5th from 3:30 to 4:30 after school. Learn E-book Basics at the Library
Love reading books on your smart phone, tablet or e-reader, but not so crazy about paying for the convenience? Come to the E-book Basics class at the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, June 5th and bring your device or try one of ours. You'll learn how to check out and download free e-books from the Dakota County Library. Bring your iPad or Android device at 10:15am, your Kindle e-reader at 11am or your Nook e-reader at 11:45am and your Dakota County library card. Learn Email Basics for Building Job Skills at the Library
Email has become the typical method for business communication, including applying for employment. In this class, you will learn how to set up a free email account, send and receive messages and add attachments. Previous computer experience is required. This class will be taught by an instructor from the Science Museum of Minnesota at the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, June 16th, 6-8 pm. Learn Interviewing Skills at the Library
Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, June 13 for a class that will teach job interviewing skills. The class begins at 2 p.m. Class members will learn how to be more confident along with strategies to make you stand out from the crowd. Topics covered include types of interviews, common interview questions, and major blunders to avoid. This class is taught by Dakota County WorkForce Center staff. Learn How to Transform Books into Handbags at the Library
Area residents are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, June 7 at 11 a.m. for a hands on demonstration on how to turn books into handbags. Participants will find out how to re-purpose an old hardcover book into a unique purse. This class is primarily demonstration—everyone will get a book cover and detailed information to take home. Learn about Sharks at the Library
Children age 4 to 10 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. for a special presentation about sharks. Children will learn about the exciting world of sharks and see and touch real shark tags and teethe. There is no charge for the program, and registration is not required.

Adults Learn about Yoga and Art at the Library
Area adults are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. for a special class combining Yoga with Art. Participants will work with artist Robin Getsug to explore creativity through yoga and art. They will establish a sense of tranquility through yoga and use a variety of materials to create a journal to reflect each day through writing or drawing. This class is presented by Artstart.
