Events at the Pleasant Hill Library

Poetry Contest at Dakota County Libraries

     Spring means poetry at the Library. Haiku, free verse, odes and sonnets—whatever your poetry style we invite you to enter our Poetry Contest to showcase your talents. Poets of all ages are encouraged to submit original poems from April 1–30. Complete an entry form online or pick one up at any Dakota County Library location. Call the library for more information at 651-438-0200 or stop by 1490 S. Frontage Rd, Hastings.

 

Library Looking for Teens with Ideas

     On Monday April 14th, from 3:30 to 4:30, the Pleasant Hill Teen Advisory Group will be meeting. Anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 is welcome to come check the group out. It is an opportunity for teens to volunteer at the library, give advice to the library on the teen area and teen purchases. There will be light refreshments served and prizes for any new members.

 

Learn Interviewing Skills at the Library

     You've crafted the perfect resume and it's gotten you an interview. Now learn how to be more confident, along with strategies to make you stand out from the crowd. Topics covered include types of interviews, common interview questions and major blunders to avoid. Taught by Dakota County WorkForce Center staff, this class will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2:00-3:30pm, at the Pleasant Hill Library in Hastings. Please call the library at 651-438-0200 to register starting Friday, March 28th.


Learn Cut, Copy, Paste Computer Skills at the Library 

     One of the many advantages of using a computer to compose text is that it's so easy to make changes! In this class, you will learn how to edit your documents using the magic of cutting, copying and pasting words, sentences or even whole paragraphs. We will be using Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer, so a basic knowledge of these and the computer will be required. Come to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, April 17th, at 10:15 am for our Cut, Copy, Paste class. Space is limited, so please call the library at 651-438-1200 to register.


Learn How to Make a Fairy Garden at the Library

     Hastings area families are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. to learn what it takes to make a Fairy Garden. People will discover how to create their own magical fairy garden from a Dakota County Master Gardener. People will learn how to build and care for both indoor and outdoor Fairy Gardens, how to choose plants and containers, and where to find or make garden ornaments. Participants will have the chance to win the Fairy Garden that is created during the class. This event is free, and no registration is required.


Learn to Juggle at the Library

     Kids age 8-15 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. for an instruction on how to juggle. Kids will learn how to juggle like they do in the circus using scarves, balls or other materials. This program is presented by SteppingStone Theatre workshop. There is no charge for the program, but registration is required.
