The Road to Calvary

Second graders at St John the Baptist Catholic School-Vermillion lead the all-school, weekly stations of the cross Lenten devotion.  The students pray at each of the fourteen statues or 'stations' in the church that together tell the Gospel story of Jesus' journey to Golgotha, or the Place of the Skull, on Calvary, the place of his crucifixion. Ash Wednesday (last week) marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It is a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, which prepares us for Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday. Pictured are 2nd graders Anna Caturia, Chloe Hanson, and Jack Sieben.
