Upcoming Events at the Pleasant Hill Library

Author William Kent Krueger Visits the Pleasant Hill Library
 
     Meet local author William Kent Krueger on Saturday,  June 1 from 11 to noon at the Pleasant Hill Library. Krueger will discuss his publishing experiences with his well-known Cork O'Connor series as well as his newly published stand-alone novel Ordinary Grace. Krueger has published 14 books, including 12 in the Cork O'Connor mystery series. You will have an opportunity to get your books signed and to purchase his books directly from him.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 

Free Resume Writing Class at the Library
     Creating an effective resume is more important than ever during tough economic times. Learn how to use a resume to show a potential employer your value. Topics covered include formatting, styles, common mistakes, do's and don'ts, and more. The class will be taught by Dakota County Workforce Center staff on Friday, May 24th, 2-3:30pm, at the Pleasant Hill Library. Whittling and Fiddling at the Library
     Area residents are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, May 25th  to hear music and stories of how a local family has been making fiddles for centuries. The event begins at 1 p.m.  There is no charge for the event and no registration is required.  Family members have been interviewed by Katie Couric and Charles Kuralt. 

Teen Volunteers Needed at the Library
     Area teens age 12 and older, are invited  to volunteer over the summer at the Pleasant Hill Library.  Teens will help young children register for the Summer Reading Program and help with a number of Summer Program events.  Work schedules are flexible throughout the summer.  Teens may pick up volunteer forms at the library.  Forms are also available online at the library website at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Completed applications are due Friday, May 24th .  For more information, call the library at 651-438-0200. 
 
Free Computer Classes at the Library
     The library is offering a set of free adult computer classes in June.  There is no charge for any of the classes, however, registration is required.  For questions regarding the computer classes, call the library at 651-438-0200. 
 
Microsoft Excel Basics for Building Job Skills, part One
     Excel is used in the workplace for accounting, tracking inventory and organizing data. Learn how to work with spreadsheets, create formulas and build a budget. Presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota Computer Education Center, funded by MELSA. Prerequisite: Ability to use the keyboard and mouse. This class will be on Thursday, June 6th, from 10:15am-12:15pm. Registration is required and begins Thursday, May 23rd. You may register online or in person, or call the library at 651-438-0200.
 
Computer Basics
     If you have little or no experience with computers, this class is for you. Learn the parts and uses of a home computer, how to use the mouse and keyboard, and become familiar with basic computer terminology. You will also be introduced to working with windows and toolbar menus. This class is for PC users. Prerequisite: None. This class will be on Thursday, June 20th, 2013, from 10:15am-12:15pm, at the Pleasant Hill Library. Registration is required and begins on Thursday, June 6th.
