JUNE CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR PLEASANT HILL LIBRARY

JUNE 1:  AUTHOR WILLIAM KENT KRUEGER. 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Adults. Meet New York Times bestselling American author and crime writer, William Kent Krueger. Best known for his Cork O'Connor series of books set mainly in Minnesota. He will be discussing his latest book, Ordinary Grace.  Meeting Room.

JUNE 3:  PLEASANT HILL BOOK GROUP. 6:30-7:30 PM. Adults. This month's book is Defending Jacob by William Landay.

JUNE 6:  MICROSOFT EXCEL BASICS FOR BUILDING JOB SKILLS, PART 1. 10:15 AM-12:15 PM. Adults. Excel is used in the workplace for accounting, tracking inventory, and organizing data. Learn how to work with spreadsheets, create formulas, and build a budget. Presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota Computer Education Center, funded by MELSA. Prerequisite: Ability to use the keyboard and mouse.  Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED-BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

JUNE 6:  LEDUC BOOK GROUP. 6:30-7:30 PM.  A book group for local history lovers.  Meets at the LeDuc Historic Mansion @ 1629 Vermillion St. This month's book is Then Everything Changed by Jeff Greenfield.

JUNE 11: ROOT BEER FLOAT PARTY. 10:30-11:45 AM. All ages. Enjoy floats, crafts, games and activities, and an opportunity to sign up for the Summer Reading Experience. Meeting Room.

June 11:  Same program will happen in the evening from 6:30-7:30 PM.

JUNE 12:  STORYTIME FOR BABIES. 10:45-11:30 AM. Newborn-2 yr. Stories, songs, bounces, and playtime, make this time perfect for babies and their caregivers. Meeting Room.

JUNE 13:  AWESOME DINOSAURS. 10:30-11:30 AM.  4-10 yr. Discover where dinosaurs lived, how they hatched, how large they were, what they ate, and what they may have sounded like from science teacher Rob Ellos. See real dinosaur fossils. Meeting Room.

JUNE 17:  MAGICIAN MATT DUNN. 10:30-11:15 AM. All ages. A dry-witted comedy magic show with a live rabbit, audience participation, out-of-this-world magic, and fun for the entire family. Meeting Room.

JUNE 18:  WAGGIN' TALES. 11:55 AM-12:55 PM. 5-10 yr. Bring your kids into the library to read to a certified therapy dog. It's not only fun, but it helps develop reading skills and fluency. Children's Area.

JUNE 19:  STORYTIME WITH STACY. 10:30-11:00 AM. 2-8 yr. Stacy Waibel, author of Rudy's Incredible Kidney Machine, will read from her books and talk about writing stories about Rudy, the cute poodle. Meeting Room.

JUNE 19:  ATOMIC ADVENTURE: A HISTORY MYSTERY. 2:00-3:30 PM. 10-16 yrs. Play  a historic character in a small Minnesota town racing against the clock to break a secret code while trying to make sense of paranoia and suspicion surrounding their town. Presented by the Minnesota Historical Society. Meeting Room. Legacy Program. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED-BEGINS TWO WEEK S IN ADVANCE.

JUNE 20:  COMPUTER BASICS. 10:15 AM-12:15 PM. Adults. If you have little or no experience with computers, this class is for you. Learn the parts and uses of a home computer, how to use the mouse and keyboard, and become familiar with basic computer terminology. You will also be introduced to working with windows and toolbar menus. This class is for PC users. No Prerequisites. REGISTRATI ON IS REQUIRED-BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

JUNE 20:  STAGE COMBAT: LET'S FIGHT WITH STEPPINGSTONE THEATRE. 2:00-3:30 PM. 9-16 yr. Learn sword-fighting, mock brawls, falls, combat safety, and more. Create battle scenes to act out. Meeting Room. Legacy Program. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED-BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

JUNE 22:  BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE CAMPING. 11:00AM-12:00PM. All ages. Meet Cliff Jacobson, author of Boundary Waters Canoe Camping, and learn how to get away from the crowd, choose essential gear, and stay dry in the rain while camping. Meeting Room.

JUNE 24:  COLORFUL COIL CLAY POTS WITH ABRAKADOODLE. 10:30-11:30 AM. 3-12 yr. Learn to roll coils and mix colors to create colorful clay pots. Legacy Program. Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED-BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

JUNE 25:  READING WITH HORSEPOWER. 10:30-11:30 AM. All ages. Bring the kids and your camera for an opportunity to pet and learn about a live miniature horse and to enjoy a horse story.

JUNE 26:  STORYTIME FOR BABIES. 10:45-11:30 AM. Newborn-2 yr. Stories, songs, bounces, and playtime, make this time perfect for babies and their caregivers. Meeting Room.

JUNE 27:  STORYTIME FOR ALL AGES. 7:00-7:30 PM. 0-6 yr. Stories and activities ideal for mixed-age audiences such as childcare groups and families. Meeting Room.

JUNE 29:  A MIDSUMMER  NIGHT'S  DREAM WITH NEWBRIDGE THEATRE COMPANY. 2:00-5:00 PM. All ages. Experience Shakespeare's comedy as performed by a local theatre company and meet the actors after the performance. Kids are encouraged to wear fairy costumes. Meeting Room.
