St John the Baptist Students Return from Regional Science Fair

A team of 10 St. John the Baptist Catholic School students returned to school Monday morning from attending the 62nd Annual Science & Engineering Fair in Mankato over the weekend. The Vermillion school competed against 1041 students representing 111 schools.  St. John the Baptist has participated in the regional fair for over a decade, and with good reason - it's fun and very rewarding for the school with a strong math and science reputation.  Results from the event included:

3rd Grade: Ben Clemens, purple ribbon and a book award; Andraya Thorkildson, purple ribbon and a book award; and Ben Zaccardi, blue ribbon and a book award. 4th Grade: Lukas Hanson, purple ribbon and a 1st place medal in the scientific category of Health Sciences & Human Performance; Julia Kurzawski, blue ribbon and a book award; and Grace Sieben, purple ribbon and a 2nd place medal in the scientific category of Health Sciences & Human Performance.  5th Grade: Cassie Bauer, purple ribbon and a 1st place medal in the scientific category of Chemistry & Biochemistry plus a special award sponsored by AgStar; Isabelle Petit, purple ribbon and a 1st place medal in the scientific category of Plant Sciences; Christian Strommen, purple ribbon and a 1st place medal in the scientific category of Chemistry & Biochemistry plus a special award sponsored by the Mankato Area Pharmaceutical Society; and Shawn Thorkildson, purple ribbon and a 1st place medal in the scientific area of Physical Science.
