University of Minnesota Extension Offers Educational Events for Farmers

Farmers and ag professionals are invited to attend two educational events offered by University of Minnesota Extension, the 7th Annual Crops Day on February 26 and the Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification Workshop on February 28.

The 7th Annual Crops Day, sponsored by Dakota Electric Association, Kimmes-Bauer Well Drilling and Southeast Irrigators Association will offer producers strategies for managing nitrogen fertilizer and corn rootworms in a changing climate.  The event will be held at Dakota Electric Association, 4300 220th St. W. in Farmington on Tuesday, February 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  While Crops Day is free and open to the public, pre-registration is requested to Phyllis Bongard by February 21 (651-480-7757 or bonga028@umn.edu).  Certified Crop Advisor CEUs have been applied for.

Minnesota farmers whose Private Pesticide Applicator licenses expire March 1 can chose to renew their permit by attending a recertification workshop offered Thursday, February 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Dakota County Extension and Conservation Center in Farmington, 4100 220th St. W.  To receive credit for recertification, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture requires that participants attend the entire workshop.  Participants should bring a government-issued photo ID, their current Private Pesticide Certification number, and the $50 fee (check or cash only).  Pre-registration is not required.

For more information about either program, contact Phyllis Bongard at University of Minnesota Extension-Dakota County (651-480-7757 or bonga028@umn.edu).
