January Calendar of Events for Pleasant Hill Library

JANUARY 1:  NEW YEAR'S DAY. LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ALL DAY.

JANUARY 3:  LEDUC BOOK GROUP. 6:30-7:30 PM. A book group for local history lovers. Meets this month @ Pleasant Hill Library Meeting Room. This month's book is The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom by Slavomir Rawicz.

JANUARY 7:  STORYTIME FOR BABIES. 10:45-11:30 AM. 0-2 yrs. Stories, songs, bounces and playtime make this storytime perfect for newborns to 2 years and their caregivers. Meeting Room.

JANUARY 7:   PLEASANT HILL LIBRARY BOOK GROUP. 6:30-7:30 PM.  Meeting Room. This month's book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

JANUARY 9: FAMILY STORYTIME. 10:30-11:00 AM. 0-6 yrs. For families and daycares with young children, family storytime is a 30-minute program that includes books, music, rhymes, and more. Some storytimes may be followed by a short craft activity--all supplies provided.  Meeting Room.

JANUARY 9:  TALKING ABOUT MONEY. 6:30-8:00 PM. Communication is a key component in money management. Learn how to talk with family members about money and navigate family financial decisions. Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED—BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF EVENT.

JANUARY 14:  HISTORY OF RAILROADS. 6:00-7:00 PM. No matter if you are a hard-core rail fan or a person who just likes trains; you will enjoy spending the evening with Charles B. McCreary, an absolute rail fan. McCreary will share stories and pictures from his book, Train Pictures, A Railfan's Memoir. Meeting Room.

JANUARY 16:  FAMILY STORYTIME. 10:30-11:00 AM. 0-6 yrs. For families and daycares with young children, family storytime is a 30-minute program that includes books, music, rhymes, and more. Some storytimes may be followed by a short craft activity--all supplies provided. Meeting Room. 

JANUARY 17:  COMPUTER BASICS. 10:15 AM-12:15 PM. Adults. If you have little or no experience with computers, this is the class for you. Learn parts of the computer & their uses, how to use the mouse & keyboard, and become familiar with basic computer terminology. This class is for PC users. Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED—BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF CLASS.

JANUARY 21:  MARTIN LUTHER KING JR BIRTHDAY. LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ALL DAY.

JANUARY 25:  RESUME RESCUE. 2:00-3:30 PM. Adults. Creating an effective resume is more important than ever during tough economic times. Learn how to use a resume to show a potential employer your value. Topics covered include formatting, styles, common mistakes, dos & don'ts, and more. Taught by Dakota County Workforce Center staff. Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED—BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF THE CLASS.

JANUARY 28:  FRED BLANCH. 6:00-7:00 PM. Adults. Meet Minnesota Book Award nominee, TV producer, composer, and beekeeper—Fred Blanch. Blanch will be reading from his book, Last Words: Frederick's Bionary. Meeting Room. MINNESOTA MOSAIC PROGRAM. 

JANUARY 29:  CREATIVE MOVEMENT WITH STEPPINGSTONE THEATRE. 10:30-11:30 AM. 3-5 yrs. Wiggle and jiggle, leap and spin. Explore creativity and imagination and build teamwork and trust through rhythm, body control, flexibility, concentration and coordination. Meeting Room. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED—BEGINS TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF CLASS.
