Calendar Listings from the Pleasant Hill Library.

Inventor's Art Workshop at the Library

     Children age 6 to 12 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m. to attend an Inventor's Art Class.  Children will think outside the box to create their own inventions from all sorts of fun and unusual scraps and discards. Inventors will use tape, glue, wire and other assorted materials.  There is no charge for the event, however, registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website www.dakotacounty.us/library.

Free Computer Class at the Library—Learn Interview Skills

     Area adults looking for a job are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, November 9 at 2 p.m. for a free class exploring Interviewing Skills.  Job candidates will learn how to be more confident as well as discover strategies to make you stand out from the crowd.  Topics will include types of interviews, common interview questions, and major blunders to avoid.  This class is taught by the Dakota County WorkForce Center staff.  There is no charge for the class, however, registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200 or visit the library website www.dakotacounty.us/library.    

Learn How to Bear Proof Your Camp at the Library

     Area residents are invited to a presentation at the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. where they will learn the art and science behind bear proofing a campsite.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who camps, hikes, or spends time at a cabin in the north woods.  People will get the low-down on protecting yourself and your food from bothersome bears.  This session is presented by author and wilderness guide Cliff Jacobs.  There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. 

Story Times at the Library

     Children are invited to several story time sessions at the library in the upcoming weeks.  A story time for toddlers is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13 at 10:30 a.m.  Children will hear stories, rhymes, songs, and activities selected to entertain and develop early literacy skill in toddlers.  A story time for preschoolers age 4, 5 and 6 is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14.  Children will hear stories, listen to music and participate in movement activities to help build language and listening skills.  There will also be a craft activity.  There is no charge for story times, and no registration is required. 

Waggin' Tales--Read to a Dog at the Library

     Children age 5 to 10 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, November 24 to read to Kippy, the Dachshund.  Kippy is a Certified Therapy dog and helps kids learn to read and improve their literacy skills by listening to kids read their favorite stories.  Reading sessions last about 10 to 15 minutes.  Children may bring their own favorite book from home, or choose one at the library.  There is no charge for the program, and no registration is required.
