Pleasant Hill Library Press Releases--September 2011

Story Times Scheduled for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Children are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library for a series of age appropriate story times this week. Story times are a fabulous way for parents and caregivers to instill a love of books and to develop early literacy skills in young children.On Monday, September 19 at 10:15 a.m., babies up to 24 months and their caregivers are welcome to join other babies at the library for stories, songs, bounces and playtime. On Tuesday, September 20 at 10:30 a.m., toddlers age two to three years old are invited to the library for stories, rhymes, songs and activities. On Wednesday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m., preschool children will enjoy their own story time. A craft session complete the morning activities. There is no charge for any of the story times offered by the library, and new children are always welcome to attend. Read to a Dog Come to the Library and
There are not many things better than reading to man's best friend. On Wednesday, September 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., children age 5 to 10 years old will have the chance to read on one of several specially trained pooches. This is a great was to help children develop reading skills and fluency. There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. Free Digital Camera Class Offered at the Library
Adults interested in learning more about using a digital camera are invited to a class at the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, September 21 at 2 p.m. The class will run approximately two hours. Students will get hands-on experience taking pictures with a digital camera and learn how to transfer pictures to a computer for editing. Students should have a basic understanding of computers and the ability to use a mouse. There is no charge for the class, but registration is required. Teens Explore the Art of Henna and Body Art at the Library
Local teens will learn the art and history of the ancient practice of using Henna for body art at the Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, September 24 at 11 a.m. Teens will learn about henna and practice making body art on themselves and their friends. Bingo Day for Grandparents and Grandkids at the Library
Children age 2 to 99 are welcome to challenge their friends to a few rounds of Bingo at the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, September 26 at 10:30 a.m. This Bingo Bash is geared especially for grandparents and their grandkids. Prizes include gently-used books. There is no charge for the Bingo Day, and no registration is required.
 
Kids Create Their Own Magic Tree House Play at the Library
Children age 6 to 8 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Libray on Tuesday, Septemeber 27 at 4 p.m. for a workshop in creating their own play. Children will travel through time and around the world as they write and act in their own play, based on the popular children's book series The Magic Tree House. This program is presented with help from SteppingStone Theatre.
 
Meet Children's Author Mary Bleckwehl at the Library
Children of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Wednesday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m. for a presentation and discussion with local author Mary Bleckwehl. Mary will share tales from her award-winning book Henry! You're Late Again! This event is geared for children age 4 to 8 years old. There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. Jump into Fall Fun at the Library
Children age  3  to 5  years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, September 30 for a morning filled with friends, fun and all sorts of activites. The program begins at 11 a.m. Children will enjoy books, crafts and hands-on activites throughout the morning.  This program is presented in cooperation with the library and the Hastings ECFE Program.  All materials will be provided.  There is no charge for the event, however, registration is required.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200.  Registration begins September 16th.
