Travel Writing Class offered at the Library
Have you ever had the urge to write about the African rain forest, the Mongolian steppe, or the woods of Minnesota? If so, plan to join other budding writers at the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, April 14 for a class on travel writing. The class is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This class will be taught by Frank Bures, instructor from the Loft Literary Center. Bures will teach students the basics of how to get started in travel writing, including the difference between sercice and narrative travel writing. He will also discuss methods to get material published, and the essence of a great travel story. For more information, call the Pleasant Hill Library at 651-438-0200. Hop on Over the Library for a Morning of Springtime Fun Activities
Children age three to five years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, April 15 for a morning filled with spring-related stories, activities, games and crafts. The activities will be held in the library meeting room and starts at 10:15 a.m. This event is co-sponsored by the Hastings Early Childhood Family Education department. There is no charge for the event, but registration is required. To register, stop in the library and speak to someone at the front desk, or visit the library website at www.dakota.us/library. Come Hear about the Life and Times of the Real Maud Hart Lovelace at the Library
Children age five and older are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about one of the nation's favorite authors--Maud Hart Lovelace. Children will learn about the Maud's childhood growing up in Mankato, what it was like to grow up in Minnesota more than 100 years ago, and how Maud's friends and family helped her pursue her dream of being a writer. They will also learn how technology changed everyday life at the turn of the century.

Free Adult Computer Classes offered at the Library
Area adults are invited to brush up on their computer skills by attending free computer classes at the Pleasant Hill Library over the next several weeks.
On Wednesday, April 20 at 2 p.m., students will be able to learn about word processing features that will explore using Cut/Copy/Paste/Dragging options on the computer. The class will use the Internet as well as Microsoft Word. Students should have a basic knowledge about computers as well as the Internet.
On Thursday, May 5 at 2 p.m., students will learn how to put together a basic slide show using Microsoft PowerPoint. Students will learn how to add text, graphics, and simple animation to their show. Registration for this class begins April 5.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mania at the Library! Register to win Best Choco-Chipper in Hastings
It's not too late to get out the mixing bowls, fire up those ovens and put your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe to the ultimate test. Area residents are invited to enter their favorite chipper cookie in the Official Pleasant Hill Library Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake Off. This event is open to cookie lovers of all ages. The cookie bake off is scheduled for Monday, April 25 at 6 p.m.
Contestants should pick up an official registration form at the library. People will bake their cookies at home and deliver a plate to the library for official judging. A panel of local judges will choose the winner. The contest will be followed by a milk and cookie social. For more information, call the library at 651-438-0200.

Learn How to Draw People and Faces at the Library
Budding artists, age 6 to 11 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Tuesday, May 3 for a hands-on demonstration on how to draw people and faces. Children will learn from an accomplished artist and practice their own drawing skills. There is no charge for the event, however, registration is required. Plan Now to Attend Annual Silver Tea at the Library
Area seniors are invited to gather a group of buddies and attend the 2011 Senior Tea at the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with treats, tea, and plenty of entertainment!
Local Piano Man Dave Pattridge and his group of talented entertainers will be on hand to perform a lively mix of songs and music from the good old days. There is no charge for the event, and no registration is required. This event will be held in the Pleasant Hill Library Meeting Room. For more information, call the library at 651-438-0200. Children Invited to Hippity-Hoppity Story Times at the Library
Children of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library for a series of story times geared for specific age groups. Parents are encouraged to bring children to the library during their early years in order to help build literacy and encourage their child’s love of books. There is no charge for any of the story times hosted by the library and no registration is required. New children are always welcome to attend story time.
On Monday, April 18, babies age birth to 24 months are invited to the library for stories, songs, bounces and playtime. The theme for this story time is Duckies Story Time for babies begins at 10:15.
On Tuesday, April 19, toddlers age 2 to 3 years old may come to the library for their own story time. There will be plenty of stories, rhymes, songs and activities selected to entertain and develop early literacy skills. The theme for this story time is Bunnies. Story Time for toddlers begins at 10:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, April 20, preschoolers age 4 to 6 years old are invited to the library for a morning filled with books, music and movement to help build language and listening skills. This story time will also feature Bunnies. There will be time during this story time for a special theme-related craft. Story Time for preschoolers begins at 10:30 a.m.
On Thursday night, April 21, children of all ages are invited to a special Bedtime Story Time, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The theme of this story time is also Bunnies. This story time is geared for mixed age groups such as childcare groups and families. Children are invited to wear their pajamas to Bedtime Story Time and bring their favorite stuffed rabbit. Children will make a craft following story time.

Ready. Set. Go! Sing, Play and Learn about Music at the Library
Children age birth to five years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Monday, April 25 for a morning filled with the magic and mystery of music. This event starts at 10:30 a.m.
Children will explore music and play through hands-on activities with MacPhail Center for Music’s early childhood music specialists. Children will also experience music’s impact on learning and reading readiness. There is no charge for this event, but registration is required.
