Reserve your piece of the wild

Dakota County Parks opens online campground reservations March 1st.

Don’t miss the chance to “Sleep under the stars, wake up in the wild,” by reserving a camp site online beginning Monday, March 1 at 10 a.m. Lebanon Hills Campground in Apple Valley and Lake Byllesby Campground just north of Cannon Falls will be accepting reservations. Reservations are accepted online only, 24 hours a day. Holiday weekends fill up fast, while weekdays are often less busy. To make a reservation, go to www.dakotacounty.us/parks and click on “Reservations & Passes.”

After setting up an online account, people can reserve camp sites, pay using MasterCard or Visa, and receive an e-mail confirmation of the reservation. The 2010 camping season is scheduled from Monday, May 3 to Sunday, Oct. 17.

Lebanon Hills Campground has 93 camp sites—58 with electricity, water and sewer; 24 with electricity only and 11 for tenting with no hook ups. Visitors will get a taste of the wild as they’re surrounded by 2,000 acres of woods. The campground is close to Minneapolis and St. Paul and popular attractions like the Minnesota Zoo and The Mall of America. Campers can hike, swim, rent canoes and kayaks, and mountain bike in the adjacent Lebanon Hills Regional Park.

Lake Byllesby Campground has 57 camp sites—35 with water and electricity and 22 for tenting with no hookups. Most of the sites are right next to the lake. Hiking, boating and swimming are a few of the activities campers can enjoy. The campground is also close to the 25-mile Cannon Valley Bike Trail.
